Allow Me

My cousin shared a parable about God placing a great, big boulder in a man’s path to his home. God commanded the man to push the boulder every day. For years, the man would push the boulder, but it never budged. Finally, the man grows tired and frustrated, and he tells God that the boulder is too big and heavy, and he can't move it. God tells the man that he did what he was told, he was faithful, grew strong from pushing, and God never expected HIM to move the boulder – that was God’s job! So, God moved the boulder.

When it comes to being a Caregiver, there is a lot to be done, but you know, some of it is not our job, it is God’s. If we allow God to do his part, miracles happen. I can share many stories where things got hard, really rough, and just when I thought all was lost and I couldn’t get it done, it happened. Sometimes instantly, but always better than expected. It was almost like God tapped me on the shoulder and said, “allow me” and made it happen.
I recall a time where I needed Gramps’ medical records to demonstrate need for one of the programs we were applying. I called the hospital and it was almost 7 years since Gramps had his stroke. Their document retention policy was 7 years, and his records were scheduled for microfiche and the hardcopy would be destroyed. I didn’t have the right authorization and had to jump threw a few hoops, but the oddest thing happened. When I got it all together, I went down to the hospital to get the documentation, and the medical records lady made it all come together. She said that some one knew of me, which I still can’t figure out because I never worked there, and anyway, they not only had the records accessible, but already made the copies for me. I don’t even think they charged me for the copying! I left there feeling like God’s hand was at work. It started out looking like it was going to be yet another one of those heavy, difficult things to get done, and poof, almost auto-magically, it came together. Thank God!
I learned to trust God more and rely on him to do his part. Ask God for help for yourself, your loved one, and ask for anything you need. God is limitless so he can handle all your requests – just ask for help! God will never let you down. Always do your part, and do the best you can. Leave the rest in God’s capable hands and then watch God clear the path for you.
